Despite a couple of highly anticipated releases this week, kid-friendly HOP retains its title and hold on the top spot for the second week in a row. Estimatedly pulling in $21.7 million this weekend, the Easter film dropped 42 percent in sales since it’s debut last week but maintained its number one rank. It has done pretty well staying almost on point with RANGO during its opening run.
Russell Brand, competing against himself this week, brought in $12.6 million with his ARTHUR remake. This puts his films in the number one and two spots respectively. HANNA earned the third spot and $12.3 million along with it. SOUL SURFER dodges another shark bite by securing a spot in fourth place with $11.1 million.
Popular rising horror flick INSIDIOUS took home $9.7 million also in its second week along with HOP. It dipped a meager 27 percent in sales which is pretty impressive for a horror film in its second outing which placed it in fifth. Danny McBride and “company” managed to finish a close sixth with $9.5 million in its debut.
This coming weekend brings us the Lincoln assassination drama, THE CONSPIRATOR, the extra-hyped SCREAM 4 and the animated RIO. I’m slightly curious to see the battle between two animated films during the Easter weekend. If you would like to take a guess-timate on which films will make what, browse on over to Box Office or Bust to see if you hang with the team.
