Jeremy Renner is to take the lead role in a true story about ‘the greatest bank robbery in American history’ titled KING OF HEISTS.

The story is based on an 1878 event in which thieves broke into the Manhattan Savings Institution and stole nearly $3 million in cash and securities – almost $50 million in today’s terms.

Renner, Oscar nominated for The Town and The Hurt Locker and soon to appear in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and The Bourne Legacy, will play the criminal mastermind George Leslie. Leslie was a society architect and ladies man whose double-life infamously earned him the title “King of the Bank Robbers”.

Newcomer Will Staples is behind adapting the story for the big screen.
