Summit Announces Sequel for RED

Summit Entertainment has greenlit a sequel for RED (Retired and Extremely Dangerous), a film based on a graphic novel of the same name and starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.

This movie performed pretty decently at the box office (with a budget of $58 Million, it made $164 Million worldwide), so it would make sense for the studio to make another one, even though none of the cast from the previous one has signed up yet.

The film will have the same screenwriters as its predecesor, Eric and Jon Hoeber, but a new director this time around, Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest).

Even when the first installment was marketed around Bruce Willis, it was Mirren knocking down guys with her clutch and firing big weapons and Malcovich running around with crazy faces who stole the show, so I’m asuming the studio needs to pen these two down to make this sequel happen.

With Bruce Willis working in the fifth Die Hard film titled A Good Day to Die Hard, I wonder if he’s gonna make it for this one, and I also don’t know if the studio would still go for the film without him, being he’s the biggest action inclined actor from that bunch.

We will have to wait and see for more plot details and cast info, but if you ask me this movie needs to have Mirren again. Nobody else can rock a white dress and military boots the way she does in her 60′s.

About Shemoviegeek

Growing up my often trips to the rental store were more about treasure hunting than just a hobby. In 1997 I was lucky enough to get an scholarship to study Arts, Cinema, and took a long course on American Screenplay (which messed up my movie watching since I can predict endings much more easily now). Married to an amazing tech geek. And besides film, I'm a food lover as well (or "foodie"), who maybe spends way too much time daydreaming and obssesing about cooking and everything food related.
