Though notoriously mute as to upcoming story lines and other show details, the Daily Mail (U.K.) caught some highly telling pictures of the Downton Abbey cast in their wedding finest. (SPOILER ALERT–read on at your own risk!)
Such pictures should hardly surprise die-hard fans, as we all witnessed Cousin Matthew’s (Dan Stevens) romantic kneeling-in-the-snow proposal to Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) during the season 2 Christmas special.
The pictures are shocking, however, because they show Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) wearing bride’s white!
(Worry not, Mary-Matthew shippers: according to the Daily Mail, scenes from Mary and Matthey’s wedding were filmed last month. Phew!)
Though pictures are worth a thousand words, these pictures leave one very important question unanswered: who will Lady Edith be meeting at the altar?
Will it be one of her two former beaus, Sir Anthony Strallan (who intended to propose in season 1, but decided against it after Mary’s vengeful interference) or the ambiguously-unidentified Canadian solider who claimed to be Cousin Patrick Crawley (a.k.a. the original heir apparent to the Earl of Grantham who was thought drowned on the Titanic)? Or, will Edith surprise us (and herself) by finding a new suitor?
With two weddings and Shirley MacLaine joining the cast, Downton Abbey season 3 is sure to be as epic as its two predecessors.
Downton Abbey season 3 will air in the U.K. (on ITV) beginning in September 2012 and in the U.S. (on PBS) starting January 2013.
