It’s time I confess: I have an addiction. Every time I go in a department store, I have to look at the bargain DVD section. Most times, it’s movies I don’t care about or already have, but sometimes there are movies I can’t resist. My latest find? Season of the Witch starring Nicolas Cage. That right there says enough for you to know if this is your type of movie or not.
Nicolas Cage delivers his signature crazy acting to an outrageous plot and really, I’m just in it for the laughs and sheer insanity of it all. However, this was a particularly weak foray for the Cagemeister. My biggest peeve? The title is completely misleading. Keep reading if you don’t care about spoilers, and believe me, for this title you shouldn’t. To start, there are no witches in this movie! They want you to believe there are, they want you to think these women are all about the evil sorcery. And then boom, out of nowhere it turns out these weren’t witches at all but rather demonic spirits.
Of all the crazy Nic Cage movies, this is definitely towards the bottom of the barrel. Looking for some good crazy Nic Cage movies? Try Bad Lieutenant Port of New Orleans, Raising Arizona, or even The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Those are at least fun to watch, which is more than I can say for Season of the Witch.
Nic Cage not your thing? There are tons of other cheap DVDs out there. What’s the best DVD you’ve snagged from the bargain bin?
