Upcoming Western crime drama Lawless has unveiled several posters of each ensemble character, featuring quite an impressive cast. Director John Hillcoat takes another turn with actor Guy Pearce (Memento), with whom he’s previously worked with on The Proposition (2006). In addition to Pearce, the cast of Lawless includes: Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Mia Wasikowska. Take a look at every poster below:
My favorite poster belongs to Gary Oldman,who really can’t ever look bad holding a gun. Even Jessica Chastain is convincing (once again–the gun helps) as she is quickly making a name for herself as a powerhouse and versatile actress. However, is it really necessary to release seven different posters? Maybe that’s just the marketing strategy these days, or maybe The Weinstein Company was a bit insecure with narrowing the focus to any one star.
Lawless will compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, and will be released in the United States August 31, 2012. Based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant, the film adaptation will follow three brothers as they find their bootlegging business under threat in Prohibition-era Virginia.
