BAD ASS Blu-ray Review - Screen Invasion

There is no denying that Danny Trejo is a true badass, but the grizzled action star now has the lead role in a movie of the same name under his belt. Bad Ass is based on a viral video that became a feature length movie. I was hoping for violence/action similar to Machete or Hobo with a Shotgun, but alas was disappointed. Craig Moss directed this B-movie throwback based on Elliot Tischman‘s script. Charles S. Dutton and Ron Perlman also star.

Here is the synopsis:

Decorated Vietnam hero Frank Vega returns home only to get shunned by society leaving him without a job or his high school sweetheart. It’s not until forty years later when an incident on a commuter bus (where he protects an elderly black man from a pair of skin heads) makes him a local hero where he’s suddenly celebrated once again. But his good fortune suddenly turns for the worse when his best friend Klondike is murdered and the police aren’t doing anything about it.

These special features are lackluster at best, but what do you expect with an indie budget movie like this.

Bad Ass reminds me of a made-for-tv movie that you would see on SyFy. The only reason to watch is because of how awesome Trejo is on screen. I can not wait to see Machete 2 now for sure. If you are looking for some cool vigilante movies, there are far better ones to check out. Bad Ass is a definite rental, and not a purchase. Either way, the movie is currently available in stores and VOD everywhere.
