Jeff,Who Lives At Home arrived on Blu-ray this week from Paramount Home Entertainment. Jay and Mark Duplass directed this dramedy, which stars Ed Helms (The Office), Jason Segel (The Muppets), Susan Sarandon, Judy Greer (The Descendants) and Rae Dawn Chong (St. Elsewhere). I was finally able to see this at home after skipping it in theaters, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot more than Eric did with his theatrical review.
Segel is not stretching outside of his comfort zone for this film, in fact he is basically playing a version of himself. The difference is that this version is a mix between a taller version of Yoda, but without as much wisdom. If you like Ed Helms, this is a slightly different role for him. His character is supposed to be a douche at the beginning and Helms does a perfect job of filling those shoes.
Sarandon can do nothing wrong in my eyes, and this role was perfect. She is so good at handling drama, but I would love to see her in more comedic roles. Her comedic timing in this and in Showtime’s The Big C is spot on. Judy Greer shows a more dramatic side to her, making it two films in a row for her that she has. She was surprisingly strong in The Descendants.
