After already having one press conference at this years E3 to show of the WiiU’s controller functionality as well as the unveil of the Pro controller, Nintendo’s second conference was to be more game focused. The crowds were eagerly awaiting the industry’s biggest in the biz, and by far the announcements were far from disappointing for Nintendo fans. Reggie Fils-Aime led the show as always and tried to keep the crowd on their toes. The show started with a little video starring Miyamoto himself, be tracked by a wild group of pikmin before hitting the stage.
Miyamoto delivered an awkward english presentation about pikmin being everywhere. Thankful this was short lived and a translator came out, while Miyamoto showed of the WiiU. Boasting about the importance of the WiiU’s built in screen and why it’s a game changer for the industries. Pikmin 3 was finally revealed and showcased it’s abilities with the WiiU controller. The game is going to allow the ability to control up to one hundred different Pikmin. WiiU’s controller paired with the previous Wii controller allows effective single player control over four possible characters.
Reggie Fils-Aime took the stage, promising to show off up to twenty four titles for the WiiU specifically. Fils-Aime explained how WiiU is going to not only change gaming, but how we interact and how we enjoy our televisions. The WiiU was also revealed that the system will ship with two controllers which is a massive announcement. There was a short video shown about the controllers specs, most of this information had already came out though.
Wii Universe is show and was compared to a main street. The app is meant to allow players to communicate about recent media events and the games that players are currently playing, the app will also be available on 3DS, mobile devices, and browser based. New Super Marios Bros. U is revealed and it’s social aspects are shown, as players can leave tags on specific levels for others to see. The game allows five players with four playing characters and the fifth placing blocks to help the four.
Arkham City was shown next as the conference switched over to the more adult focused games. The port is paired with new featured specifically utilizing the WiiU gamepad, such as grappling shots and scanning modes. Quite a bit of time was spend on a game that had been out for well over a year, however the game did look good on the WiiU. Scribblenauts Unlimited was unveiled next, the trailer showed off a new creation mode which allows new words to be made and shared across the network. This wrapped up Warner Bros. presentation.
Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Tekken Tag Tournement 2, Trine 2: Director’s Cut, Ninja Gaiden 3, Aliens Colonial Marines were all shown in a short montage of the WiiU’s line up.
Reggie Fils-Aime then cashed in on the internet, by announcing that his ‘body was ready’. Wii Fit U was shown and gameplay was sort of shown with new activities for people to compete in while working out. The fit meter is shown as a basic device to tracks players runs and other non-indoor workouts. Sing was shown afterwars, a game which is meant to incorporated the whole room during party games.
Some 3DS titles were finally shown, the presentation was pretty awkward, but a live event was announced for tomorrow night live from www.e3.nintendo.com. New Super Mario Bros 2 was shown and a release date was given for August 19th. A new Paper Mario game was shown called Sticker Star, the game looked great and shows the use of stickers for battle commands; the game will ship this holiday season. Luigi’s Mansion for the 3DS footage was shown, and was named as another holiday launch. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Epic Mickey, Scribblenauts, Kingdom Hearts 3DS were all shown quickly after the 3DS announcements.
Lego: City Undercover was revealed, which is one of the first recent Lego releases to not focus on a specific franchise title. The game has people playing in a free roaming world as a police officer, and looks fairly fun to play for younger gamers.
Ubisoft was given their time to unveil their line-up for the WiiU. The first title that was shown was Just Dance 4, another installment of the party franchise. The WiiU controller will allow a player to chose the moves that the dancers will need to perform. ZombiU gameplay was shown after yesterdays reveal trailer was shown during Ubisofts conference. The game relies heavily on the WiiU controller as both a survival tool and a weapon, creating a sort of arcade style of gameplay that will make players feel like their lives are on the line. Assassin’s Creed 3, Rabbits Land, Yourshape, Rayman Legends, Sports Connection, Avengers Battle for Earth, and ZombiU were all shown right as Ubisoft left the stage.
Nintendo Land was talked about as the new explanation game for the WiiU, a game which will shown people exactly what the WiiU has to offer. Details were revealed as some minor gameplay was explained. The game looks essentially like the new WiiPlay which was expected to announced. Much like other games Nintendo Land will allow a player use the WiiU gamepad to play a different experience from the people playing with the Wii remote. The game will launch simultaneously with the WiiU console.
