Mondo Announces New LORD OF THE RINGS Series at Mystery Drafthouse Screening

The Mondo Mystery Movie has become an event of epic proportions here in Austin (with a few screenings in Los Angeles, lucky bastards). Each event has truly been a mystery with no inkling or clue whatsoever to what movie is going to be screened or even what artist is doing the poster.

MMMX was no different. While it would be hard to hold an event bigger than Mondo Mystery 9 (Dawn of the Dead with actual zombies inside a decrepit shopping mall), Mondo Creative Director Justin Ishmael really wanted to treat the audience this time around.

When he introduced the show, he brought up Elijah Wood, which made it pretty apparent at that point that the movie would be one of the Lord of the Rings films. Although they tried their hardest to convince us that we were about to actually watch FLIPPER, eventually what we were treated to was RETURN OF THE KING. If you need the film reviewed to, frankly, I don’t know what to tell you other than I’m not gonna review the film here, you should have seen it by now.

What I am going to do is show you the glorious posters by Aaron Horkey. The regular and variant edition measure 19.25″ x 39″ and bear a striking resemblance to his JURASSIC PARK posters.

For those of you who don’t live in Austin, don’t fret. I hear Justin will be at Comic-con representing Mondo and there will surely be some awesome exclusives that anyone lucky enough to attend will be able to grab before anyone else can.
