SDCC ’12: IMAX Remix’s Exclusive SKYFALL Footage Review

IMAX joined the fun at San Diego Comic Con this year with an exclusive off-site event at The Ruben H. Fleet Science Center. While that doesn’t sound like the ideal location for a Comic Con event, it makes perfect sense given that this has one the largest IMAX screen in town.

After drinks, light bites, and DJ mixes, we all shuffled in to the IMAX theater for something. Rumors swirled that it would be Skyfall – but the whole film? Just a clip? No one knew for sure! The lights dimmed and we were treated to an IMAX Remix, hence the name of the event. The remix consisted of clips from various IMAX films including Mission Impossible 4 and Star Trek as well as more Science Center fare like nature, landscapes, and snowboarding. It was an interesting mix of clips and all set to a custom live mix from DJ Glen Morrison.

Then, it was time for the main event! They debuted the exclusive IMAX trailer for Skyfall. Featuring a sexy new Bond girl, the iconic line “Bond, James Bond” and an all-new Q, the small audience went wild! The big reveal of this footage was definitely Q (played by Ben Whishaw), showing more of him and his technology skills. It definitely seems like there will be some friction between him and Bond, and with him being so much younger than the original Q it will bring a new dynamic to the genre.

The trailer will debut in IMAX theaters this summer, likely playing before The Dark Knight Rises but that is not confirmed at this time.

Skyfall hits IMAX and regular theaters on November 9, 2012.

About Kristal Bailey

With a soft spot for movies that fall into the “So Bad They’re Good” category, she regularly watches B-movies, 80s comedies, and sci-fi from the 50s and 60s. She also refuses to grow up if that means she has to hide her love for Disney and Pixar films. In her free time, she enjoys reading graphic novels or books that are soon to be turned into movies, watching hours and hours of television, and spending way too much time on Twitter.
