Welcome to the second edition of our newest feature, Meet an Invader! We have such a wide array of talented writers, that it’s high time we introduced everyone. Every Sunday, we’ll highlight one of writers as they answer the same series of questions. Last week you got a chance to get to know Kristal Bailey a bit better, now it’s time to meet Jim Napier, co-founder of Screen Invasion and integral to making sure the website looks and functions as well as it does. If not for him, the website would probably look like the archaic Space Jam official site.
Without further adieu, meet Jim Napier!
1. What drew you to the Screen Invasion team, over other bigger and older entertainment websites?
I initially started NapiersNews.com as a way for me to share my love of music and movies. It was a place where I could write movie and music reviews and share cool stuff with whoever was interested in reading it. The site started growing when I began reporting more news related content. I met Kristal Bailey while writing content for another site and found a kindred spirit. We soon began plotting to invade the world one screen at a time with ScreenInvasion.
2. Briefly describe what you write about for the site for our readers- movies, music, news, reviews, your regular feature etc.
I do not write as much content as I wish I could, instead most of my time is spent behind the scenes tinkering with the website itself.
3. What’s one pop culture goal you want to accomplish before the world ends? (Mayan calendar predicts the apocalypse will be 12/21/2012)
Because of my writing, I have already gotten the chance to attend San Diego Comic-Con twice, and have met so many wonderful people that I am already one happy pop culture geek. I have been able to interview some pretty cool people as well, but I would love to meet Han Solo/Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford.
4. What’s your desert island movie (or TV show or album) and why?
Seeing as how I love movies and music, and I have never been able to color within the lines, I decided to share the movie and album I would like to have with me on a desert island. Picking a favorite movie is impossible, I have so many that I like. That being said, I would love to have The Big Lebowski with me on a desert island. As far as music goes, I would take the Drive Original Soundtrack featuring some wonderful music and a score by Cliff Martinez.
5. What’s your background in writing?
Growing up with a mother that is an English Education teacher and a father who was in radio and newspaper advertising, I have to be fairly decent at writing. I am a very creative individual, so I enjoy sharing my thoughts on stuff that I love.
6. What’s your guilty pleasure TV show?
Reality TV has taken over the world so I have to say that I love watching Celebrity Apprentice. There is something cool about watching has-been celebrities trying to show their business acumen, or lack there of.
7. When you aren’t writing and watching movies/playing games/listening to music – what do you do for fun?
I have no life outside of pop culture. I work a day job that allows me to pay the bills, the rest of the time I spend hanging out with my wife watching TV and movies. Sad existence, I think not.
8. If you could have dinner with 3 fictional characters – who would it be and why? What would you want to talk about?
I would love to have dinner with The Dude, Han Solo, and Tallahassee from Zombieland. We would talk a little about favorite ways to kill zombies for the impending apocalypse, whether or not Han actually did shoot first and what The Dude has done to tie the room together now that his favorite rug has been peed on.
