It’s hard to believe that it was 30 years ago that the story of an alien and his friendship with a little boy came into theaters and stole all our hearts away, but that’s the case with Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. In honor of this milestone, the movie is now being released on Blu-Ray for the first time ever, and we interviewed Dee Wallace, who starred in the movie as the boy’s mother. You can check out the interview below!
1. When did you know that this movie was going to be a classic?
Wallace: I knew as soon as I read the script that it was going to be special. I was immediately hooked when I read it, and I knew I had to be a part of it.
2. One of the special features is the ET Journals, where we get a behind the scenes look as the movie was being filmed. It looked like it was a fun time. Talk a bit about life on set.
Wallace: Oh yeah we just had an absolute blast. Steven (Spielberg) always did his best to make things light hearted and easy going. It really was a joy coming to work every day. Everyone was so nice and it made things so much easier for me. My favorite part was Halloween, where we all got dressed up. That was really fun.
3. What’s it like to see this movie that was such a big part of your career on blu-ray?
Wallace: It’s so cool! It’s really amazing to see what the new technology can do, and it’s amazing to see the movie in a whole new light like this.
4. What is your favorite special feature?
Wallace: Well they are all really cool, but I love the ET Journals. It’s great to give people in insight into how much fun we had making this film, and I’m glad that people are seeing this movie in a completely different way.
