Four Must-See Movies in October

Posted by Karin Abcarians - 10/05/2012 - Features, Movies

Each month I pick movies that are the must-see, cream of the crop. They’ll either be films coming out in theaters that week or something on Netflix I think that’s worth the watch. The top four films for the month will be ones that have the a lot of buzz, an interesting storyline and a cast that will definitely make the film great. We know not everyone has time for every major release or big movie, so instead of featuring 10 great films a month, these are truly the ones that cannot be missed. The month of October has plenty of great films to see, including Oscar hopefuls!

If you do check out anything I’ve spotlighted or a movie I didn’t spotlight, tell us about it in the comments section!

Week 1:

Frankenweenie. Out in theaters October 5th, directed by Tim Burton, this 3D black and white stop motion animated fantasy film’s synopsis is “After the death of his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring him back to life. Victor tries to hide his creation, but Sparky gets out and unintentionally causes havoc in the town”. I love when Tim Burton does films like these! It stars Charlie Tahan, Frank Welker, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Robert Capron, and Atticus Shaffer.

Here’s a trailer for the film:

Week 2:

Argo. Out in theaters October 12th, directed by Ben Affleck, this film is sure to be an Oscar contender this year! The synopsis is “When militants seize control of the U.S. embassy in Tehran during the height of the Iranian Revolution, CIA agent Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) creates a fake Hollywood production in order to fool the terrorists into releasing a group of U.S. diplomats in this Warner Bros. docudrama based on actual events. Affleck directs from a script by Chris Terrio, with George Clooney handling producing duties. Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Bryan Cranston co-star”. I really enjoy Ben Affleck’s film, this is sure to be a good one!

Week 3:

Paranormal Activity 4. Out in theaters October 19th, If you’ve seen the first three, I know you’re excited for this fourth one! Here’s the synopsis “The Paranormal Activity film series continues with this fourth entry from Paramount Pictures and returning directors of the previous film, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in.”

Directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski, it stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, and James D’Arcy. Phew! What a stellar cast! The film is based on the novel written by British author David Mitchell.
