Warner Bros has graced us today with the new and revised trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad. As many of you know, this film was supposed to be released this year. Warner Bros delayed the film to January after the Aurora Massacre in Colorado to revise some scenes that involved a very similar incident. They have now released one action filled trailer that has really got me excited for January. The best thing about this trailer is that it shows a lot more of Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen. With a star-studded cast this is primed to be a great film to start off the new year.
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Gangster Squad is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less), written by Will Beall and is based on Paul Lieberman’s book. The film is packed with an awesome cast including Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, and of course Sean Penn playing the ever terrifying Mickey Cohen. This film noir will be hitting theaters January 11, 2013. I hope your as excited as I am.
