‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!’ Elf is such a fantastic Christmas movie that the entire family, kids and all, can enjoy.
Elf is about a human who thinks he’s an elf stuck in a Christmas elf’s world at the North Pole. Once he discovers what he truly is, Buddy decides to venture out to find his real dad. This leads him to New York City where he explores throughout the city in a kind of naiveté only seen in small children. The way Will Ferrell, who plays Buddy the elf, convincingly portrays this childlike wonder of the Big Apple is simply wonderful!
With all of Buddy’s shenanigans aside, Elf is a very heartwarming story. It’s just a guy trying to connect with his father in a strange city. Ferrell’s character quicky becomes acquainted with a certain special lady, Jovie, played by non other than everyone’s favorite quirky girl, Zooey Deschanel. This was a huge role that helped get Zooey much more popular in the industry. She is also sporting some lovely blonde locks which is a huge difference visually from what you may be used to seeing on the hipster queen.
Elf would not be complete without it’s awesome supporting cast of characters portrayed by some great actors: Ed Asner as Santa, Bob Newhart as Papa Elf, James Caan as Walter Hobbs, Mary Steenburgen as Emily, with appearances by Peter Dinklage as Miles Finch, Andy Richter as Morris, Kyle Gass as Eugene, Artie Lange as the Gimbel’s Santa, and my favorite cameo, Peter Billingsley as one of the North Pole Elf’s. The director, Jon Favreau, gives himself a little screen time as well playing the doctor who confirms that Buddy is in fact Walter Hobb’s son.
Elf is by far one of my top favorite Christmas movies that I could watch any time of the year. If you haven’t seen Elf yet, where have you been since 2003 when the movie was released?! Check out the trailer:
