The goal of this new feature is to show the world that girls can be geeky. For some, that seems like an obvious observation, but there’s always that one person, most of the time a guy, who will talk about how girls are fake geeks who don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to “geek culture”, and that they’re somehow just there to be admired by geek guys. I’m here to let the world know that girls DO know what we’re talking about. We can be and we ARE just as geeky as the guys. Every month, I’ll interview a new geek girl. We come in all shapes and sizes, and love a many number of geeky things. I’m going to show the world that there are geeky girls, and they know as much, if not more, than the somehow more revered geek guy.

Meet Brittney Comeau aka Daisy Marie Dixon. She’s an awesome geeky girl who loves zombies, The Walking Dead, The Boondock Saints, Tron and a bunch of other cool stuff. She’s been to cons and events dressed in cosplay and is planning to broaden her cosplaying to more great outfits. She’s most known for her Daryl Dixon (from The Walking Dead) cosplaying with a zombie edge!

Screen Invasion: How do you define the word Geek?

Geek: or nerd is what I would say, is someone being completely honest & true to what they love. Someone can be a comic book geek, a computer geek, a sports geek, a fashion geek, a trike drifting geek… Whatever their passion is, I think it’s absolutely brilliant. Very rarely do you see someone being a professional at what they do, & not be a geek about it… That being said… I’m a TOTAL GEEK/NERD! Anyone who knows me, knows I love to geek out about music & anything zombie related. Why should I not be passionate about something I love? I’ve learned to block out people in my life who do not approve of what I do because they think it is “immature.” Sorry to break it to them, but I love my life & absolutely adore the people I’ve surrounded myself with…

SI: Do you consider yourself a “geeky girl”?

hahaha ^_^ (refer to the first questions answer!)

SI: Is cosplaying something you do each time you go to conventions or events?

Portland will be my 3rd convention I will have gone to & yes! I love to do the cosplay at these!!!! This is where I REALLY feel like I can be me. Everyone else there is just like me. Down right passionate about that type of culture!!! Not being accepted into the boring mundane society, but being accepted by each other for loving all of the same things! We don’t want to talk about your adventures of the club in Vegas… Shoot we want to talk about hitting the grid or one day traveling to Middle Earth ^_^ !

SI: Many people know you as “Daisy Dixon” (for your Daryl Dixon cosplaying), is there any other cosplaying you’ve done or anything you plan on doing in the future? What do you love about dressing up as your favorite characters?

I believe we are going to be doing our Walking Dead cosplay characters in Portland when we go, but my friend & I are currently designing Tron outfits. When it comes to anything Tron related I freak out. So to be actually creating suits & characters (I’m going to be a Rebel Siren named Zetta who will be wearing black instead of white, & have pink lights). I’m super excited to bring this idea to life because its something I’ve dreamed about since I knew about life on the grid.

SI: Cosplaying has become very female dominant, do you think this shows just how much the word geek has evolved?

I definitely think geek has become more acceptable in our culture. Not ENTIRELY but I think I lot more people are being exposed to it & realizing how much… how much better it honestly is. I LOVE how I’ve just let go into being a nerd. I was always afraid to be open & myself about it… Last year was the first year I actually started dressing up… I worked at a haunted house for the first time… Never did any acting classes or anything… Ever. But I had a lot of fun opening up & developing these weird, creepy, scary characters… By the end of the season I’d won awards of 6 room of the nights, actress of the week, & actress of the season. Because I allowed myself to just fully geek out in my cosplay characters. It’s brilliant! It’s super fun to pretend you’re being someone else for a while!

She is one cool geeky girl! Follow her on twitter here to keep up with whatever she’s up too! Excited to see her Tron inspired cosplay as soon as she completes it!
