SKYRIM, my favorite time sink and soul stealer of late, has announced a 1.9 Beta Update available on Steam as of today. Basically, get ready for all your mods to goddamn break like an old person’s bones. I can hear the sound of a million Nexus Mod Managers screaming in terror.
The patch fixes a lot of annoying crap, like your White Phial vanishing into your follower’s gullet if you give it to them, that classic glitch in Mind of Madness that would spawn a dragon and annihilate you, the Oghma Infinium Glitch, and my personal favorite entry:
- Fixed rare instance of couriers who would appear only dressed in a hat[/quote]
No Nord StripperGrams for me anymore, I guess.
The sexiest change is the new “Legendary” level cap, which reverts a full skill to 15 and clears all perks, effectively obliterating the level cap. You can then spam Iron Daggers and Fortify Health Potions to your daedric heart’s content. There’s not a lot of info on this. Perhaps this is similar to the CALL OF DUTY where it just resets the skill? Or will we be able to keep the 100 level strength, and it just clears the perks? Not a lot of info here.
Note, this is a Beta Update, and not considered a full release update yet, so you’ll have to do some Steam ninjitsu to opt into it.
With recent changes to Steam, you’ll want to take the following steps to opt into the beta.
- Within your Steam Library, right click on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
- Select Properties
- Select the Beta tab and opt in using the drop box
If you opt into the Beta, be sure to back up your saved games or simply be careful not to overwrite your existing saves. If you decide to opt out of the beta program, your old saves will still work with the current release of Skyrim on Steam (v 1.8).
Beta Updates from Bethesda are normally totes butt, so don’t complain if your game completely implodes or sets your GPU on fire. I warned you! It’s actually nice to see Bethesda still releasing patches for the vanilla version, even though some mods fix some of this stuff anyway.
This beta update is for the PC Necromancers only. You Xbox and PS3 console Falmer must wait until the Bethesda Aldmeri are finished with their meals and toss you the update at some undetermined time after this. You poor Betrayed consolers. You don’t really get to the Cloud District very often, do you?
