The Godzilla Encounter was on one of the best Comic-Con experiences I’ve had in my 8 years attending the con. They took over an entire building in downtown San Diego and recreated an entire Toyko block. Just as you get adjusted to being “in Tokyo”, suddenly there’s a Godzilla attack and everyone has to evacuate. It’s a fun interactive experience that ends up in getting a sneak peek at the king of monsters. While the ’98¬†Godzilla¬†film starring Hank Azaria and Matthew Broderick featured a new creature design, this one seems to go back to the classic Godzilla we’ve all known and loved.

The monster is a return to form with a few very minor updates to help amplify the scares and take advantage of the modern CGI technology. While I couldn’t take pictures of the beast, he has a shorter snout and beadier eyes. He emitted a terrifying roar that was similar to a T-Rex from Jurassic Park. We saw him creeping past the 25th floor, to give a sense of scale on how massive this beast is.

If you’re at the con, you can get in to the Godzilla Encounter by signing up for a time slot at the Legendary Booth on floor. I definitely recommend it if you have the time this weekend! And be sure to download the iPhone app if you do it too, as it’ll unlock a great concept art piece. If you can’t check it out for yourself, then scope out these pics I was able to take while in the “Toyko streets”.

Once you use the iPhone app to translate all 5 signs within the space, it unlocks the below concept art:
