Kick-Ass 2 is out in theaters now and it’s safe to say that critics are divided. One side of the divide is clamoring that it’s misogynistic, too violent, reduced to poop jokes, and more while the other side is saying it’s a fun, hyperviolent romp in line with the first Kick-Ass. With such a wide divide, we’re eager to see what all you Invaders think!
Warning: Below there be spoilers for Kick-Ass 2.
Kick-Ass / Dave Lizewski
The original super hero makes a return to the crime fighting life after hooking up with Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey). The main spoiler revolving around Lizewski is the death of his father in the middle of the film. And by death, I mean murder, courtesy of the Mother Fucker (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). The most fascinating part about his coping process is the fact that the two other main characters in the film, Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), and the MFer both lost their fathers in the first one. What did you think of the movie’s extreme decision to kill off his dad?
Hit Girl / Mindy Macready
Perhaps the biggest complaint viewers had about Kick-Ass 2 was the somewhat lack of Hit Girl in the movie. While she certainly channels some of her first movie badassness in the first and last twenty minutes of the film, she spends the bulk of the middle trying to live a normal life. This is so she can keep a promise to her legal guardian Marcus Williams, who by the way is played by Morris Chestnut this time around. Instead of dealing with masked criminals, Macready is dealing with the popular girls at school, and the challenges of emerging into a mature woman. While she still provided some great moments, I was hoping she would do some more Hit Girl stuff. What did you think of the decision to try and establish her character in real life instead of the hero world.
Colonel Stars and Stripes
In the first Kick-Ass movie, we had Nicolas Cage playing Big Daddy. His quirky humor and overall bad ass nature was a great side plot of the first one. This time around, Jim Carrey brings a truly unique character who provides humor with violence in an amazing character. Of course, the big spoiler with his character is his untimely death in the middle of the movie. I mean, my god that was a graphic murder. We will get to the MFer shortly, but the Colonel’s death epitomized how far he had fallen. What did you think of this bold, sudden decision?!
The Mother Fucker / Chris D’Amico
Man, I was almost scared of McLovin in a mask for a second. D’Amico really plunged off the deep end after the bazooka death of his father. Just ten minutes into the movie, D’Amico accidentally kills his mother while she is in the tanning booth. From there, he orders gruesome murders of the chief characters mentioned, and makes no secret about his utter desire to watch Kick Ass die at his hands. Did you believe Mintz-Plasse as the villain?
My favorite part of Kick-Ass 2 was the increase in the character heroes and villains in this sequel. No secondary character stood out more then the chief sidekick villain, Mother Russia. Olga Kurkulina, a Russian body builder, stole the show with a two minute sequence that will absolutely blow you away. In the end, she goes down in an epic battle with Hit Girl, involving alot of glass. Was Mother Russia your favorite character? Who else did you like?
