It appears members of the PC master race who have been yearning for their own Grand Theft Auto V experience can finally put down their torches and pitchforks. Clues have been popping up all over the internet pointing to a next-gen and PC version of the hit game, and you really don’t need a double sided hat, a magnifying glass, or a partner named Watson to decipher them.
Over on those pesky NeoGAF forums that are becoming a breeding ground for leaked information, a user by the name of Metalmarc noticed PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game listed on a Czech website called SuperGamer.cz. Though it seems foreign to us, obviously, this site is a legitimate retail site in Europe. The game is not for sale on the site yet, however, and they have the current release date slated for June 13, 2014 on all three platforms.
Is one piece of evidence not enough for ya? You’re in luck, there’s more where that came from! If you happen to be German, and are taking a break from your constant imbibing and lederhosen-wearing to browse Amazon, you may have noticed a listing for a PC version of GTA V available for online preorder. A similar listing was found on the French version of Amazon, but since then the listing has been removed.
Hey, does anyone know a plumber? Cause it seems like Rockstar has a pretty big leak problem right now!…….*crickets*
Maybe you’re thinking, does Rockstar even need to release a next-gen or PC version of GTA V? Stat-tracking service Raptr named it the most played game of 2013, so clearly fans are satisfied. Rockstar could easily quit while they’re ahead and take the over 1 BILLION dollars the game made, so you gotta give em credit for trying to please all of their fans.
We’ve seen the potential of PC mods with games like Skyrim, and Grand Theft Auto V seems tailor made for endless mods to make the PC version just as popular as the console versions. Wanna run around with a lightsaber, slashing prostitutes and druggies? I bet someone can make a mod for that. The possibilities truly are endless.
And as far as the next-gen version rumors, just look at the positive buzz surrounding Square Enix’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for PS4 and Xbox One. Again, these companies are choosing not to be satisfied with what they have, and to take on the challenge of showcasing what they are capable of producing for these next-gen consoles. The graphic improvements in the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition are astounding. Who wouldn’t want to see that type of visual improvement in the world of GTA V?
Hopefully, all these clues are leading to a proverbial pot of gold in the form of a platform-wide GTA V release. The alternative is these clues being false rumors leading to a dead end, getting our hopes up and squashing them in one fell swoop. No one wants that.
