Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett: The CBS Television Specials Soundtrack Review

Sony Masterworks has now released a two-disc edition featuring highlights from each of these performances, with classic material that has been remastered for CD. While there are certainly some issues relating to the limits of the format, in general this is a worthwhile collection that will make listeners nostalgic for the golden age of variety shows.

Oceania

“Oceania” by The Smashing Pumpkins Album Review

Oceania is the latest album from Alt Rock royalty The Smashing Pumpkins, or if your feeling somewhat cynical Billy Corgan and his Smashing Pumpkins tribute band. I must admit I went into this record with low expectations, ever since the reformation and reshuffling of the bands line up and Corgan’s ambitious (to say the least) [...]

the bravest man

“The Bravest Man In The Universe” by Bobby Womack Album Review

The story of Bobby Womack is one of incredible proportions, starting off as a guitarist he worked with the likes of Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin before his solo career took off in the late 60′s. Between then and now Womack has established himself as one of the true great soul singers from that era. He’s also battled with scandalous romances, [...]

Kanye West (ft. Bon Iver) “Lost in the World” Video Review

He imagines that if he and his special lady are together when they die, at least they’ll “get laid in the afterlife.” They should have that inscribed on their wedding rings!

SHERLOCK SERIES TWO Soundtrack Review

At times, the themes display qualities fitting that of an Oscar-nominated film. In nearly seconds later, the same theme ends up paying homage to a mind-numbing, action-adventure popcorn feature.

60 Second Review: “Rhythm and Repose” by Glen Hansard

Oscar winning singer/song-writer Glen Hansard delivers an over-mellow solo debut that doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be when it grows up.

The-Wanted-EP-Cover

“The Wanted EP” by The Wanted Album Review

Technically, this EP entitled The Wanted is the group’s third release. Their two previous albums, The Wanted and Battleground were received well across Europe, but failed to get the boys noticed in America. Now, all that has changed with the release of mega-singles like “Glad You Came” and “Chasing The Sun.”

Look Around

Red Hot Chili Peppers’s “Look Around” Video Review

You can play the video and spin the camera’s viewpoint around at will. That. Is. So. Cool. In each room there’s also a clickable object that brings you to a slide show of behind-the-scenes photos.

Beach House-Bloom

Bloom by Beach House Album Review – Jessi’s Take

Maryland’s dream-pop duo, Beach House, have been critically acclaimed darlings since their self-titled debut dropped in 2006.  The two albums that followed, Devotion (2008) and Teen Dream (2010) were accepted equally as well by fans and critics alike.  Their latest release, Bloom is the band’s most beautiful work to date, masterful both vocally and musically. [...]

Best Coast Album Art

“The Only Place” by Best Coast Album Review

In 2010, the California duo, Best Coast busted onto the scene with Crazy for You; singing blissful pop tunes about relationships and weed.  Bethany Consentino and her partner-in-crime Bobb Bruno struck a lo-fi chord with music fans and critics alike, becoming darlings within the festival circuit and on summer music playlists.  Their sophomore effort, The Only Place, is [...]

bieberbf

Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” Video Review

But this video is a transparent attempt to make Biebs seem older, sexier, and more suave. He’s eighteen now, but he doesn’t look it. So it doesn’t quite work.

TITANIC – An Epic Musical Voyage Soundtrack Review

What soulless individual can deny the technical mastery that went into James Cameron’s TITANIC? The 1997 multi Oscar winner is a perfect a display of gorgeous costuming, intricate art design and production so beautiful it performs the impossible feat of distracting you from Kate Winslet’s assets. No less stunning is the music, which is now [...]
