Trailer for Joss Whedon’s THE CABIN IN THE WOODS is here!
Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s horror genre mashup gets a poster and a trailer in the same week?!? Somebody pinch me, it’s actually happening! Plus, it looks as sweet as honey(comb)!
After MGM sat it on the shelf for two years, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS is finally arriving into theaters. And while it may have taken Chris Hemsworth swinging Mjolnir for us to hear his version of an American accent, I must say that this trailer makes me think that it’s going to be worth the delays and possibility that it might never be released, especially if it presents a hybrid of genres that gets away from the worry that it was just going to be AVENGERS mastermind Joss Whedon’s (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, FIREFLY) version of THE EVIL DEAD, which nevertheless would also probably be awesome as well. Whedon produced and co-wrote the movie with fellow Mutant Enemy alum Drew Goddard (CLOVERFIELD, LOST, ALIAS), who is also making his directorial debut.
I’m just going to warn you now that the trailer is possibly full of spoilers, so if you want to go in blind when the film debuts, don’t click on the video. Just know that it definitely presents a twist on the generic Lionsgate horror pictures and previews midway through the trailer. THE CABIN IN THE WOODS opens on April 13, 2012.
The trailer came to us courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.
Some of the footage looks a little spotty, particularly some of the CGI work with the bird hitting the force field, but overall I’d say that it is an amazing glimpse into a little movie that could. It’s just that the “could” part looks completely up in the air, and I personally like the intriguing possibilities raised here.
Earlier this week Ain’t It Cool News got the exclusive on the amazing teaser poster, which you can see below (and also here).
What do you think? Will it be worth the wait, or will it be too clever/stupid for its own good? (Note the fine line between clever and stupid)
