Four Must-See Movies in September

Each day before the beginning of every month, I’ll spotlight four films you should see each week and why, including trailers, clips, pictures and anything else I can. They’ll either be films coming out in theaters that week or something on Netflix I think you should see. The kind of films that will land in my top four for each month, will be the films that have the a lot of buzz, an interesting storyline and a cast that will definitely make the film great. We know not everyone has time for every major release or big movie, so instead of featuring 10 great films a month, these are truly the ones that cannot be missed.

If you do check out anything I’ve spotlighted or a movie I didn’t spotlight, tell us about it in the comments section!

Week 1:

Brick. I’ve picked this film, which is on Netflix, and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt who goes to hell and back in the world of a high school crime ring to find out what happened to his ex-girlfriend who disappeared. Directed by Rian Johnson, this is the first collaboration between him and JGL, who reunited for Looper which hits theaters this month, so to get you prepped for that film, watch this high school nior that really shows the depth in JGL’s acting.

Here’s a trailer for Brick:

Week 2:

The Master. In theaters September 14, this is sure to truly kick off the Oscar season buzz. Check out our article highlighting what to watch for come Oscar time! It has a stellar cast of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern and Jesse Plemons and is written and directed by the incredibly talented Paul Thomas Anderson. The plot for the film sounds amazing. Hoffman stars as a World War II vet who’s inspired to create a religion upon returning home to 1950s America.

Week 3:

The Perks of Being A Wallflower. In theaters September 21. Many people have read Stephen Chbosky’s book and can relate to the story of the lead guy Charlie going through many different crazy, scary and cool experiences while in high school. With a cast of Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev and Kate Walsh to name a few, it has the potential to be a great adaptation.

Week 4:

Looper. In theaters September 28, the second collaboration between director Rian Johnson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s getting a lot of buzz, and the storyline for the film is pretty outstanding. The film takes place in 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target gets sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by transporting back Joe’s future self. JGL plays the younger version of Bruce Willis’ character Joe. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels, and Paul Dano.
