Meet an Invader: J.C. De Leon, Film Critic

J.C. just wrapped up working Fantastic Fest and is our resident Blu-Ray/DVD movie reviewer. We’ve been working online together for a while now, first on another site and now here at Screen Invasion, and I still can’t believe we’ve never hung out in person! It certainly feels like we have given the multitude of topics we bond over on Twitter – movies of course, but also football, posters, and more.

But enough about our friendship, now it’s your turn to get to know Invader J.C. De Leon:

1. What drew you to the Screen Invasion team, over other bigger and older entertainment websites?
I’ve known Kristal for a while now, ever since we wrote together on Gordon and the Whale. We had a lot of mutual interests, namely sports, and when I saw how cool her new site was, I jumped at the chance to write here and I’m really glad I did.

2. Briefly describe what you write about on the site for our readers.
I cover reviews of theatrical releases, festival coverage and Blu-ray/DVD releases.

3. What’s one pop culture goal you want to accomplish before the world ends? (Mayan calendar predicts the apocalypse will be12/21/2012)
I’d like to be quoted on an official one sheet or in a trailer.

4. What’s your desert island movie and why?
Maybe Say Anything. I fancy myself a lot like Lloyd Dobler and I’ve gone after many a Diane Court in my day. Never been successful though.

5. What’s your background in writing?
I’ve written for a couple of years now for a few sites here and there. I still consider myself new to it and I’m learning and improving all the time. (I hope)

6. What’s your guilty pleasure flick?
Maybe another sappy John Cusack flick, Serendipity.

7. When you aren’t writing and watching movies – what do you do for fun?
I love sports and I try to watch as much of it as I can.

8. If you could have dinner with 3 fictional characters – who would it be and why? What would you want to talk about?
Tyler Durden, Diane Court, and Lloyd Dobler.

Kristal Bailey

With a soft spot for movies that fall into the “So Bad They’re Good” category, Kristal Bailey regularly watches B-movies, 80s comedies, and sci-fi from the 50s and 60s. She also refuses to grow up if that means she has to hide her love for Disney and Pixar films.

In her free time, she enjoys reading graphic novels or books that are soon to be turned into movies, watching hours and hours of television, and spending way too much time on Twitter.
