SYTYCD Season 9: Top 7 Routines

Well it started this summer with thousands of dancers from all around the country. And now, we have just 4: Chehon, Cyrus, Eliana, and Tiffany. In honor of the final tonight, we bring you the top numbers from Season 9 of So You Think You Can Dance.

Witney and Chehon, Contemporary – Top 16

This routine had all kinds of emotion. The song was a perfect choice, honor Whitney Houston, who died earlier this year.  Chehon was incredibly strong as he always is, and Witney showed that she is so much mroe then a ballroom dancer. The spinning lift in the middle is one of the best moments on SYTYCD history. What a routine.

Eliana and Cole, Contemporary – Top 6

Eliana hasn’t made one wrong step all season, and this was one of her many highlights on the year.  Her and Cole embraced the off the wall idea of embodying rams in this hard hitting yet still very emotional piece. Both were brillant in it, and the silent scream at the end is full of such incredible angusih and emotion that it still sends chills up my spine.

Tiffany and Benji, Jive – Top 6

This was the first time that Benji had graced the SYTYCD stage as an all star after winning Season 2 of the show, and he paired up with the incredibly diverse Tiffany, who picked up anything that was thrown at her this year. Tiffany looked like someone who had been dancing the jive for years, and the two did some jaw dropping lifts throughout the action packed number.

Eliana and Alex – Top 10 and Top 4

Man, talk about the Season 9 Dream Team. With all due respect to any other couples on this show, these two together might be the most trained, talented couple we’ve seen on the stage. First, they stole the show with a Stacey Tookey contemporary number that led to a standing ovation.  It was just an amazing piece of art from start to finish, and just added on to Tookey’s incredibly underrated career on SYTYCD.

The two artists hooked up once again on the Top 4 finale, and this time they were shown the way by Travis Wall.  The connection between the two is just amazing, like they have been dancing together for years now.  This is one of the many reason that I think Eliana will win this year. Simply put, she has been brilliant, every single week. Check out this number, which very well could have locked her up the title.

Cyrus and Chehon Vegas Round Solos

I’ll end the piece with the two most brillant Vegas solos we have ever seen. First, there was Cyrus, who had to dance for his life after faltering in the ballroom round.  We knew he would have something special for us after his incredible audition, and he did not disappoint. What I love so much about this clip is the appreciation you see on the other dancer’s faces. They know how amazing he is.

Secondly, we have the solo that the judges admitted got him a spot in the Top 20. There really wasn’t much TV coverage of Chehon until the final round, where he blew the judges away with his amazing technique and athleticism.  There’s not much more I can really say about the solo. Just take a look, and enjoy the other top male dancer.
