Dear Readers,

I don’t know about you, but for me, December is shaping up to be a fairly expensive month. And not just because I have to buy Hanukkah and Christmas gifts for family and friends.

Every year around this time, the film industry treats us to the lion’s share of the year’s most hotly anticipated films. The only problem is that they don’t “treat” us in the monetary sense. And when you live in NYC—where movie tickets run $12-$14—the cost adds up pretty quickly.

That said, I have to own my share of the blame here. Would that I had the patience to wait for movies to show on HBO, Showtime, etc. But I don’t. I love movies and the thought of others seeing a film that I’ve been eagerly awaiting before me is simply unacceptable.

So, below are my must-see December flicks (organized by release date). Some are chick flicks in the traditional sense, others are chick flicks only by my definition, and the rest are not chick flicks in any sense. But that’s OK—I like what I like, and a little variety every now and then is a good thing.
