10 Awesome Songs From FIFA You’ve Probably Never Heard

Fifa video game soundtracks have a bunch of great songs, many of which you may have never heard. Video game soundtracks have seen a rapid rise in importance and fandom in recent years. In sports games of the 90’s, there was no music to speak of, save for the standard awesome video game made tune. However, this changed around the time of Tony Hawk for the N64. This was one of the pioneers of video game soundtracks, and it was a trend that quickly caught on.

By the time that the PS2 and X-box were released, games like Madden, NBA Live, NHL, and more were adopting popular radio hits for their background music. Quickly, fans were listening to new music that kept the game going during the usually boring menu sequences.

As we move to the modern day video games, this trend is still expanding. The latest Madden and 2k titles both boast an impressive list of hip hop and rock hits that goes beautifully together. To give you an idea of how big they are, Jay-Z himself produced the NBA 2K13 soundtrack. But we are not here to talk about these games. We are here to talk about the most popular sport worldwide: FIFA.

FIFA is unlike the other games, because the soundtrack is very different. Madden and 2k specilize in local artists and American hip hop.  Meanwhile, FIFA digs deeper, and finds a healthy mix of foreign speaking music with some lesser know rock groups to weave together a beautiful menu of sound. Without further ado, we bring you 10 awesome sounds off the FIFA soundtrack that you’ve probably never heard.

1. “Escapee” by Architecture of Helsinki: My wife was quick to point out that she had heard of Architecture of Helsinki, which didn’t surprise me considering that was more her style of music growing up. But I had never heard of them until this came on during my play of FIFA 12. The opening reminds me of teenage wasteland, and the chorus is very catchy. This is easily one of the my favorite songs off the soundtrack, and one I think you will find very catchy.

2. “Hold On” by The Chain Gang of 1974- This has been one of my favorite songs as of late, and has been on repeat on my I-pod. This song comes from the FIFA 12 soundtrack, which is my favorite in recent years. Check it out below.

3. “Wonder” by Dan Black- This is easily one of my top tracks on any FIFA game, though this one comes from FIFA 11. Dan Black brings us a great beat and tune that had me flowing throughout the menu screen. This is another song that you will have trouble getting out of your head.

4. “Hits Me Like A Rock” by CSS- You might have heard this one, as CSS is known widely for their hit song “Music is My Boyfriend.” Well this is their follow up to that song, and while it has a poppy feel to it, it is also a slower song that stays smooth throughout.

5. “Not in Love” by Crystal Castles- FIFA 12 sort of had a “rave” like feeling to it’s soundtrack, full of songs that were poppy but also have techno beats to them as well. Not in Love is one of those songs, and one that I really like as well.

6. “Circles” by Digitalism- Circles is a song that I didn’t care for at first, but has quickly grown on me, and is one of the first songs I play for my friends when I brag about these soundtracks. Much like the title of the song, the lyrics have a circle like feel to them, finding a healthy ratio of repeating lyrics and adding new ones.

7. “The Big Big Bang” by Rock Mafia- Another slower song here, The Big Big Bang is a very solid song itself. It has a different vibe to it, and is unlike many of the songs off the soundtrack. I’ve never heard of Rock Mafia before FIFA 12, but I really liked this one.

8. “Record Collection” by Mark Ronson and The Business International- If you fire up this song, you might find yourself asking “where have I heard that voice from?”, it’s because it is Simon Le Bon. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, surely Duran Duran, the band he was the former lead singer for, does. This is my buddy’s favorite song off FIFA 12, and is also one of my favorites.

9. “City” by Medics- This song is unique, because the sound of the lead singer is really unique. It is almost like he is a mad scientist of some sort, and the song is, for lack of a better term, a bit crazy.

10. “O.N.E” by Yaesayer- I leave the best for last. This was already quite possibly my favorite song off of FIFA, and then I saw the video. And wow, the video is just ridiculous. You won’t want to miss it, and the song itself is incredibly catchy. It was also featured as a Music Monday late last year!
