Interview: SAFE HAVEN’S Young Star Mimi Kirkland
I recently had the pleasure of (email) interviewing the lovely young starlet of Safe Haven, Mimi Kirkland. She’s making her big screen debut in the upcoming film based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. We talked about Safe Haven, her experience, fun things about herself, and if she’s got anything else we can look up too.
Safe Haven is your first major film, what was it like shooting this film?
It was fun because I enjoyed hanging out with Josh Duhamel, Julianne Hough, Noah Lomax and the rest of the cast and crew from Safe Haven. We spent so much time together, it seemed like we were a real family. I miss seeing everyone!
The people of Southport were spectacular. I met a lot of really nice people and loved going to the local stores and restaurants – Fishy Fishy, Provision Company, Taylor Cuisine and the Yacht Basin were a few of my favorites!
In the film you play the daughter of Josh Duhamel’s character, what was it like working with him?
Josh is really funny and nice. He and I met before the filming started and hung out on the beach for the day. This made it a lot easier to work with him and it made the acting feel more natural.
Did any of the actors give you some advice for your future career in film?
Always be nice to others and be yourself.
What’s one thing you’d like us all to know about your character, Mimi?
I play a 6 year-old girl named Lexie who is the daughter of Josh Duhamel’s character, Alex Wheatley. Lexie is very sassy and loves to color and makes beaded jewelry. She is very close to her dad and brother Josh (Noah Lomax) because their mother died.
What are your hobbies outside of acting?
I really like riding my bike, coloring, karaoke and playing board games.
Is there anything we should look forward to seeing you in? Working on any new films/shows?
I’m not working on any new films or shows at this time, but I’m auditioning in LA right now. Acting is a really great experience so I’m excited about the next opportunity and can’t wait to book my next role!
