HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: The Time Travelers Episode Recap
Last night was one of the best episodes of How I Met Your Mother that I can remember in recent years, for two reasons. Amazingly, the significant step with the identity of the mother (45 days ahhhhh) is not one of them. Here’s what I loved about last nights episode. At the same time, it both brought back some of the great, classic humor that helped us fall in love with the show, while also bringing in a brand new form of story telling that, for once, was actually really funny.
First, the old humor: Marshall (Jason Segal), Lily (Alyson Hannigan), and Robin (Cobie Smulders). Marshall is upset that Robin has stolen his drink, and as a result, writes her number on the men’s bathroom wall. She responds by writing an awesome essay on the wall, that results on Marshall being trapped in the bathroom stall. After that, their feud ends in a dance off. Absolutely amazing.
Then, the new story telling. Ted (Josh Radnor) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), having an awesome conversation with their future selves about robots vs wrestlers, which is also one of my favorite old story lines that they often reference. The conversation is based around Ted’s failing relationship, and ultimately ends with the reveal of…..the coat check girl(Jayma Mays)! In case you forget, she appeared in a Season 1 episode called “Okay Awesome”, but then disappeared afterwards. She was always one of my dark horses as the mom, but sadly, she’s only there to prove a point to Ted, that he needs to change his ways, or he will end up alone.
In the end, Barney tells Ted that this is all a memory from five years ago, and that he is really all alone, as Marshall and Lily are dealing with Marvin, while Barney and Robin are picking a caterer. Then, he runs to his future wife’s apartment, and pours his heart out to her, saying that they will meet in 45 days!
This officially confirms what we basically already knew. The season finale will be Barney and Robin’s wedding, and that is when Ted will meet the mom. With this news, I am now happy that How I Met Your Mother will be back for a 9th season, because that means that we will get one season with the mom. After next week, I’ll probably be frustrated with this show again. But today, I love it once more, and that’s a great feeling.
What did you think of the episode? How excited are you that we will meet the mother soon? Let us know in the comments!
