Music Monday: “Liquor Store Blues” by Bruno Mars Feat. Damian Marley

Music Monday is back! After a brief hiatus, we’re back bringing you one song a week that you may not have heard of, may not have heard in ages, or one that we just can’t seem to get out of our heads. Enjoy!

Big news dropped over the weekend for football and pop music fans – Bruno Mars will be the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show performer! While he has his fair share of haters, I’m actually a huge fan of his. He’s got a solid set of pipes and knows how to write a catchy tune. He’s done a number of collaborations with artists like B.oB., Eminem, Janelle Monae and more as well as a ton of hits from “Just the Way You Are” to “Treasure”, but one of my favorite tracks that didn’t really get a lot of love is “Liquor Store Blues” featuring Damian Marley. His Doo Wops & Hooligans is one CD I know I won’t be selling any time soon. Check it out below.

“Liquor Store Blues” by Bruno Mars lyrics:

Standing at this liquor store
Whiskey coming through my pores
Feeling like I run this whole block
Lotto tickets and cheap beer
That’s why you can catch me here
Tryna scratch my way up to the top

Cause my job’s got me going nowhere
So I ain’t got a thing to lose
Take me to a place where I don’t care
This is me and my liquor store blues

I’ll take one shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

One shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

Me and my guitar tonight
Singing to the city lights
Tryna live on more than what I got
Cause 68 cent
Just ain’t gonna pay the rent so
I’ll be out here til they call the cops

Cause my job got me going nowhere
So I ain’t got a thing to lose
Take me to a place where I don’t care
This is me and my liquor store blues

I’ll take one shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

One shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

[Damian Marley:]
Here comes Junior Gong
I’m flying high like superman
And thinking that I run the whole block
I don’t if it’s just because
Pinapple kush between my jaws
Has got me feeling like I’m on top
Feeling like I woulda stand up to the cops
And stand up to da bigger heads because de whole a dem a saps
All de talk dem a talk and dem (fly make no drop)
Nuff ghetto youth cannot escape the trap

Give me this one shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

One shot for my pain
One drag for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

With a soft spot for movies that fall into the “So Bad They’re Good” category, Kristal Bailey regularly watches B-movies, 80s comedies, and sci-fi from the 50s and 60s. She also refuses to grow up if that means she has to hide her love for Disney and Pixar films.

In her free time, she enjoys reading graphic novels or books that are soon to be turned into movies, watching hours and hours of television, and spending way too much time on Twitter.
