Square Enix Collective Crowdfunding Initiative Officially Launches
Back in October, Square Enix announced that in the new year it would be launching a kickstarter-esque platform called The Collective. Now, just three months later, that site is officially live. The Square Enix Collective is a place where indie developers can advertise their games and gauge public interest through a crowd-funding platform.
Rather than outright ask for money right off the bat as is typically the case with Kickstarter projects, the Collective gives the public 28 days to express interest in each respective game via a vote on the site. At the end of the twenty-eight day period, Square Enix then decides if the game which garnered the most interest deserves to be funded and is capable of handling the game’s creation.
You might be thinking, Square Enix rings a bell, but I can’t put my finger on why that name sounds so familiar. Let me help you out. Square Enix isn’t your run of the mill gaming company; we’re talking about one of the heavyweights. Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Final Fantasy are all incredibly popular gaming franchises that belong to Square Enix. So, basically, this is a huge opportunity for whichever indie developer’s game is chosen to make a name for itself in the gaming world.
Without further ado, here’s a look at the indie triumvirate that currently comprises the inaugural Collective list, along with a brief description given by each game’s developer:
Moon Hunters: Moon Hunters is an open-world adventure for 1-4 players, solving ancient mysteries and building mythologies. Explore a hand-painted pixel art world that’s randomly generated yet rich with crafting, non-linear stories, and arcane lore
Game of Glens: Game of Glens is a fun and frantic game of skill and tactics that provides a genuinely new and unique blend of action and strategy. You manage your Highland Clan and compete in the original, ancient Scottish highland games known as the Game of Glens. The game combines resource management, physical structure building and projectile based combat, featuring a variety of single and multiplayer gameplay modes.
World War Machine: Step into a universe in which the eradication of humanity has given rise to a perpetual war between surviving machines.
YOU ARE MACHINE: A supremely customizable, highly advanced technological marvel of destruction. Gather Materials to Craft crippling Weapons, upgrade your ruinous hardware Components, and make critical moment to moment tactical choices as you campaign through an unforgiving future earth filled with massively destructible environments and diverse Missions in this fast paced, modern action RPG.
Adventure solo or party up to survive the hordes of remorseless Enemies as you express yourself, compete for bragging rights, and engage in world changing events with the entire World War Machine community across the globe
The Square Enix Collective site can be found here. Remember, you only have 28 days to vote and support whichever game you’re most interested in or you die!!! Just kidding, but still vote.
