THIRD PERSON Trailer Features All-Star Cast

The new trailer for the upcoming film titled Third Person, a romantic drama directed by Paul Haggis, stars Liam Neeson, who heads an all-star cast including James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Adrien Brody, Kim Basinger and Maria Bello.

Writer/director Paul Haggis was the co-writer and director of Crash (2004), which is a film that examines the racial and social tensions in Los Angeles through a series of interlocking stories. Crash won Best Picture that year and Haggis received two Academy Awards.

Story

Third Person is a film that tells three interconnected love stories spanning the globe with settings in New York, Rome and Paris. This is the first time that Haggis is returning to an interweaving narrative structure.

The Trailer

Neeson plays a writer seeing a mistress, played by Wilde, in Paris. The trailer then switches to Mila Kunis, who seems to be taking on the role of a troubled mother fighting with her child’s father (James Franco) in order to see her son again. Oscar-winner Adrien Brody also makes an appearance, playing the role of a businessman who seems to be willing to do anything for the woman he falls for in Rome. Kim Basinger and Maria Bello also make an appearance in the trailer, but their roles in the film are not as defined to the viewer. The end of the trailer is also quite memorable. The viewer is left with an image of an expressionless Neeson, as the trailer closes with, “You love love. It’s people you don’t have time for.”

What’s the Missing Link?

Although these couples are separated by geography, the trailer seems to link the characters together abstractly. The trailer paints an unclear picture of the situation at first, but it seems that Neeson is the central connection between the couples. In the trailer, Neeson states that the novel he is writing is about “A man who can only feel through the characters he creates, but he keeps trying to be someone else.” The novel that he is working on looks to be the central link among the cast of characters.

Themes

After watching the trailer, the viewer is left a number of questions. However, one thing that they will surely take from it is the amount of themes that will play out on the big screen. The trailer is full of lust, love, violence, deception, jealousy and a whole lot of drama. Let’s just say that based on the trailer, the characters do more than just sleep on their Beautyrest mattresses. One can only imagine the full scenes in theaters, since Third Person garners an R rating.

Audience

Third Person will be enticing to any romantic drama movie goer.  As mentioned before, it has everything you would want and also features a star-studded cast. What else could one ask for?  It will be a movie full of twists and turns, with each different story telling a new secret.  As writer/director Haggis points out, “In any relationship there is always a third person; perhaps not romantically, perhaps not even consciously, but present in some form.”  Look for Third Person to hit select theaters on June 20, 2014.
